Eighty percent of all fire
deaths occur in the home
Each year
about 300 people are killed and $280 million
in property is destroyed in fires attributed
to children playing with fire
Deaths due to children playing with fire are
particularly avoidable
Having a working smoke alarm more than
doubles one's chances of surviving a
fire.
What to do if your child
experiments or acts out with fire:
Many severely damaging and/or fatal
fires are started by children playing
with matches and lighters. Serious
injury can result from fire play or
experimentation.
Some
children begin early in life to “act
out” with fire – putting the lives and
property of their family and neighbors
at risk.
IF:
Your child has ever played with
lighters, matches or flammables.
Your child has deliberately set anything
on fire.
Your child displays carelessness or an
unhealthy obsession with fire.
You are unsure how to present fire
safety education to your children.
